Design your Bedroom like a Five Star Hotel Room
6/1/09

Just checked into a swanky hotel room and instantly all problems go flying out the window, the mellow tone and luxurious setting make us feel like a million bucks, but why can't we get the same feeling every time we walk into our own bedroom?

Well now you can. Just concentrate on these four areas when decorating your room and you will be well on your way to having your very own five star bedroom!

1: Lighting
Decide what you enjoy about staying in a hotel room, is it soft lighting that helps you unwind? Is it bright lights that make you feel fresh? If you want to feel relaxed (most probably) in your bedroom, go for soft lights but plenty of so that not all your light is coming from one spot.

2: Bed
This is probably the most important, and is probably the most expensive thing in a hotel room. Everyone is different so you need to find a bed that you really enjoy sleeping in and will continue to enjoy every night, after all a bed is not just for Christmas. With the current state of the market there are some renown bed makers dropping their prices down to the ground so if you look around you can probably snap up a bargain.

3: Aroma
We couldn’t emphasize this enough, when you walk through that hotel room what is the first thing you realize? You probably don’t even notice it but its most likely to be the aroma that hits your nose, Hotels spend a fortune to get rooms smelling fresh and new, some Hotels in Dubai apparently have their own unique aroma that help their customers feel relaxed. A regular clean, fresh air and some pot puree should do the trick.

4: Personalize
Personalize your room but don’t over do it! After all we still want it to feel like a new experience every time you walk through that door. Canvas art prints can be a great way of personalizing your room without overdoing it. Carefully selected furniture can really do the trick here because it will be endorsed by your personal taste. What you will notice with Hotel rooms is that they do not tend to clutter their rooms with too much furniture or art.

There you are, keep these in the back of your mind whenever you are decorating and you will be on the way to your very own 5* bedroom.

Enjoy!

How a Canvas Art Print can change your life

19/12/08

It has been accepted for almost five years that there is a new form of displaying art on walls, be it in your office or home. The fact is that canvas art prints are widely liked and are becoming more and more liked day by day.

Why the fascination with canvas art prints?
Simple! Not the answer, the art! The art presentation is simplistic and leaves more to the imagination and can help free problems and worries leading to a potentially stress free moment, a moment of escape, lets explain.

Have you ever seen Collateral, staring Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise, where Jamie Foxx plays a taxi driver, driving serial killer (Cruise) around town. During the film Jamie constantly looks at this simple postcard of an island to escape the daily worries that he faces, helps him remain focussed and happy, call it lapse escapism.

Lapse escapism has been around for centuries and is practised in good forms of yoga where one just focuses on a simple thought and for those moments escapes into pure bliss and contentment, this is known to relieve stress and potentially lead to happiness and can help reduce chances of medical problems.

So what has all this got to do with a canvas art print on my wall?
Again simple! Lets say you have a picture of a sunset, landscape or white sand beach on a good quality canvas and you hang it in your office or gym.

This will have such an impact, for some it will be instant, for others it will take time, but you will find that, so long as the canvas art print is something you like, then you should experience increased energy levels because your mind subconsciously associates the work environment / exercise environment with a happy moment that you may have had or want to have.

To achieve this however, you must make absolutely sure that the canvas art print is printed using high quality materials and doesn’t fade over time as this will subconsciously represent your dream or happy thought fading away.

So why not make your chores / work / exercise brighter and more enjoyable with a simple piece of art.

Is your Canvas Art Print coated or not? That is the question
15/12/08

You have just gone out and bought a lovely canvas art print that looks amazing and will fit in nicely with the furniture in your living room. However, you don't even think about how long it will last because the shop you bought it from says the canvas art will last 100 years.

This may not be entirely true, and even if it is to last a 100 years the chances are it will look like a wrinkly old faded fabric hanging on your wall for your great grand kids to enjoy. If this is exactly what you wanted then clearly the answer is no, you do not need a coating on your canvas art print.

Instead, if you would like your canvas art to look as young and as colorful as the day you bought it then it would require a protective coating on the surface.

What is a canvas coating?
It is quite simply in most cases a fine film of laminate that covers the surface of the canvas to protect from dust, splashes of water and other harmful things that may come in its path over the years. It is carefully heated to join onto the canvas art print itself to make it inseparable.

How do I know if the canvas has a laminate / coating?
When and if you are in a shop and are looking at a canvas art print, it can sometimes be quite difficult to check whether it has a protective layer. The main things to do are the following:

  • Ask the shop keeper / online shop about whether the canvas art print has a coating on it. Chances are if they say yes then it will have it, if they reply with 'a what on it?' they most probably haven't
  • Some laminates / protective coatings leave a subtle shine on the surface
  • Have they advertised that their canvas art prints are protected?

If it is clear after this that the canvas has not been coated with any form of protection, then you need to handle it with care and follow these steps:

  • Ask the shop to laminate it / or coat with protective layer (make sure you take a picture before and after to check for any damage) ask about their protection process as some coatings can leave a canvas with a yellow tint over time, google it to check the quality of the laminate they are using. If they refuse either get a refund or go next:
  • There should be professional art businesses in your area, ask them if they can point you in the direction of a laminator or canvas studio (or go to another shop that does laminate canvas art)
  • Do it yourself: Although not advised!!! And can end up damaging rather than improving the canvas art print. If your canvas art print has cost you as it has some others a small fortune, then make sure that you get it coated by a professional.

I hope this has helped some what in identifying how important it is to get your canvas art print coated. If you have it well coated, the chances are it will last almost as long as the shop keeper told you at the start. By the way all canvases at Canvas Art Land have include a high quality protective layer.
